AthleticsCU sponsors 16 varsity intercollegiate sports, with both the men and women competing in basketball, cross country, golf, and track and field (indoor and outdoor). Skiing (alpine and nordic) is a coed team, and there are women’s programs in soccer, tennis, and volleyball. The Buffaloes are ending a long association with the Big 12 Conference in either 2011 or 2012 (yet to be determined) and will join the Pacific-10 Conference, competing against schools from Arizona, California, Oregon, Utah, andWashington. The CU Athletic Ticket Office is located between Gate 4 and Gate 5 in the south end of Folsom Field.
3303-49-BUFFS Cultural Events BoardThe Cultural Events Board (CEB) has a long and proud history of sponsoring thought-provoking discussion on campus. Topics vary from issues in the Middle East, to the role of women in art and music, to the importance of advocating for diversity in our multicultural society. Recent speakers include Queen Noor of Jordan, pop culture analyst and author Chuck Klosterman, acclaimed author and U.S.–Iranian relations expert Hooman Majd (pictured at right), and Hasidic Jewish musician Matisyahu. CEB allocates student fee funds to student groups that host events promoting multicultural opportunities and education on campus, such as the Gay Straight Alliance’s “Drag Show,” the African Student Association’s “Taste of Africa,” and the Persian Student Organization’s “Norooz,” among many others. University of Colorado Museum of Natural HistoryConsidered one of the top comprehensive university museums of natural history in the United States, the University of Colorado Museum of Natural History, in the Henderson building, contains four million biology, anthropology, and geology research specimens. The museum also sponsors lectures, classes, tours, and workshops for all ages and interests. Exhibits include fossils, animals of Colorado and the Rocky Mountain region, and ancient Southwestern cultures.
